A Pomander was a popular Christmas gift in Tudor times, as they helped disguise all the unpleasant smells of Tudor life, and it is easy to make!.

This does involve the use of pins so children will need to be supervised.

What you will need:

An orange

Pins

Red ribbon

Cloves

Ground Cinnamon

Greasproof paper

Silver foil

Instructions:

Wrap the ribbon round your orange, pinning it in place as you go. Tie a bow at the top of the orange.

Press the sharp point of the cloves into the orange, it can help to make a small hole using a pin first. You can either stick them in randomly or make a decorative pattern with them.

Put the orange on a piece of grease-proof paper and sprinkle the ground cinnamon all over it. Wrap the grease-proof paper round the orange and then wrap it up again in solver foil.

Leave your wrapped up orange somewhere dark and warm, an airing cupboard is ideal, for up to 6 weeks. When you unwrap it you should be left with a hard, sweet smelling ball that you can use year round !
