Collector quality, yet completely playable with – so this is perfect for the adult collector and for children (I think 8 and upward – as they will know how to handle something of this quality, but do encourage gentle play!). The Tudor outfit is made from lovely, soft material, faux-fur lined sleeves, wine/claret underskirt, pearl trimmed head-dress, shoes, undergarments (pantaloons, socks, chemise, crinoline half-slip), the miniature key around her neck and the popper fastenings on her clothes, all add to a wonderful outfit. With the additional outfits, and the keepsake book and the novel that can also be purchased, it makes a great set to have. The whole concept of the doll and a novel/book is a very clever way to teach about history – by embedding this fictional character into the midst of the intrigue of Britain in the days of the Tudors. The novel is a gripping read. Matilda is the first doll in the line, and her descendants appear in other ages, bringing history and the costumes of the era with them - such a great idea.

This really is the perfect gift (or treat for yourself). Children and adults, will want to learn more about history, fashion and costumes, culture - hence older girls will like this too (I am sure I these dolls will inspire future careers in costume design, creative writing, history and sociology). Matilda is my first doll in this range, and I absolutely adore her and recommend her unreservedly.

I purchased Matilda’s items separately, including the novel, and everything is really beautifully made, and fabulous quality with attention to detail. Her dog Hunter had sold out, so I bought her Amelia’s Cat Ophelia for a pet instead. The dolls in A Girl for All Time range - can wear each-others clothes, I bought Ameila’s blue cape too! (Matilda will fit some of the 16” Sacha and Disney Animators dolls clothes – the body shape is a little different, so experimenting is part of the enjoyment. Have to say, I prefer Matilda in her Tudor outfit). I am saving to buy Lydia – bundle offer – next (I will also drop heavy hints to my husband). But any doll in the range would be wonderful, either the Historical range or the Modern range - and there are two new dolls coming soon: red-haired Elinor from the Elizabethan era, and the dark and beautiful Bex – one of the Modern Girl range, so something for every taste.
